CARMEL HOUSE

Kanjikuzhi, Kerala.

Client: Shibu Kurian

Area : 9950 sq.ft

Year  : 2014

Photography : Amit Rastogi

Residence for a big family, emphasizing the wooden architecture of Kerala. The client is a wood furniture merchant, who wanted his house to be a display space as well. The house sprawls out in flour floors, one being basement and the other being a huge attic space which can hold up to 150 people.

The basement functions as the wood workshop as well as a chapel, but is hidden behind the small hillock on which the house sits.

Blended with nature, the surrounding flora was consciously not disturbed during the design phase and materials were chosen accordingly to enhance the royal look of the building.

Complimenting the style of architecture in Kerala, the sloped roofs and the elegant wooden columns totally give it up to this genre.
